Does improving patients’ knowledge reduce petty corruption by healthcare providers in developing countries?

Kathrin Durizzo is a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. She sat down for an interview at the 2026 AEA poster session to talk about a randomized control trial in Ghana that aimed to empower patients with knowledge of their healthcare rights. She found that more information can strengthen bottom-up accountability and reduce petty corruption.
